Digital Design Workshop

Today marks the start of the second part of workshop series conducted by Dr. GVV Sharma to teach us about digital electronics. While I wait for the workshop to start, I was reminded of the previous workshop. which ran from 06 October to 10 October this year. While the workshop started with basic stuff like how to install a linux-GNU based OS like ubuntu (a topic which I am well versed with and infact turned out to be something I taught my peers and the TAs about), the workshop did teach me new skills.

I was also reminded about how I'd missed completing the final part of the workshop, which then motivated me to get started on the remaining part and finish it. Doing the project was certainly a good refresher. Funnily enough, when I finally got the circuit working (for this project, the code was correct in just one go but I had made mistakes while connecting the wires which took time to rectify), I realised that the seven segment display had become a five segment display lol. We now wait for tomorrow (6 more hours to be precise) to get a new display and test out my code.

Update! Both the workshops have now conlcuded, and have taught me many new things, including assembly, which really helped me make sense of how stuff works under the hood. Also had some wonderful discussions with Dr. Sharma about open source software and how careers should be, but those are stories for another day!

Here are some photos from the two workshops:

Notice how few participants were there for the 2nd workshop, it felt like an odd sort of victory to just be there everyday and see it to the end.

P.S. I promise I have more than 1 good t-shirt, I just happened to have worn the same thing on both days!
